Rules & Regulations

 

 

Current WTF Rules and Regulations will govern the Sparring event and the tournament Rules and Regulations will govern all other events. There will be a few modifications to enhance the competition experience for all participants.

 

Mandatory Equipment for all Competitors  

Any style Martial Arts Uniform for the Breaking and Forms Events.

For the Traditional Forms and Sparring Event, a White V-neck WTF approved dobok is required. Black trim is allowed for Black belt competitors only.

All Breaking competitors must purchase their regulation size breaking boards from the tournament committee.

Breaking boards will be available for purchase at the tournament for all Breaking Events.

 

Mandatory Sparring Equipment

1.      Foam white head gear

2.      Hogu (chest protector) with Red & Blue Sides

3.      Mouth piece

4.      Fore arm guards - white

5.      Groin protector

6.      Shin and instep guards - white

7.      Belt

 

Traditional Forms Competition

 

WTF approved Forms only. 

 Color Belt Forms: Taeguk 1 – 8 and Palgue 1 – 8

 

 Black Belt Forms: 1st Dan - Koryo

                                 2nd Dan - Keumgang

                                 3rd Dan – Tae Baek

                                 4th Dan – Pyong Won

 

All competitors must perform a rank appropriate Form.

 

 

Scoring for Traditional Forms:

 

Four (4) Judges will score this event.  Each Judge will have a specific responsibility as follows:

 

Judge           

Duties

1.Content

Judge will score the accuracy of the form.  A .5 deduction will be taken for each error in the form.

2. Stances

Judge will score the accuracy of the placement of the hands and feet for each stance in the form.  .25 deductions will be taken for each upper body mistake,

(i.e.: Blocks, attacks, hand position) and .5 deduction will be taken for each lower body mistake foot position, leg position).

3. Artistic

Judge will score based on power, style, expression (concentration), Kiap, speed, focus, posture, balance, grace, strength, appearance and confidence. A .1 deduction will be taken for each category not satisfied.

4. Scorer

This judge will add the scores, display the scores, and type in the competitor’s

standing in the division.

 

One competitor will perform at a time. 

Each judge will start with ten points.

The judges will deduct from ten points and record the final score and give this to judge 4.

i.e.: A perfect score is a 30.

One restart will be allowed for any competitor that requires a restart.  Points previously deducted

will not count; however, all referees will start with only 8 points instead of ten.

Breaking Competition

Hand Skills:

Freestyle: Degree of difficulty, creativity, accuracy.

 

Foot Skills:

Free Style: Degree of difficulty, creativity, accuracy.


Regulation breaking boards sizes for this competition are as follows:

1.      Adult and Senior Division ( 18 years & over)          12 x 10 x 1 inch Pine

2.      Teen Division (14 years – 17 years)                        12 x 6 x 1   inch Pine

3.      Junior Division (8 years – 13 years)                         12 x 10 x ˝  inch Pine

4.      All Children ages 7 years and under                        12 x 6 x ˝  inch Pine

 

Competitors must provide their own breaking boards.

Official size Breaking Boards will be sold at the day of the competition.

Competitors must provide their own board-holders.

Competitors are advised to protect the floor when using any breaking materials that will damage the gym floor.

Only board breaking will be allowed for all breaking competitions.  Competitors will not be allowed to break any glass, bricks or perform any fire breaking.

Each competitor will be allowed two (2) minutes to set up and complete his/her routine.

Clock begins as soon as the competitor steps onto the competition area.

Competitors will be allowed only two (2) attempts per station. (After an unsuccessful 2nd attempt, you must move on to the next station.)

         No more than three stations will be allowed.

 

         Scoring for Breaking:

 

Four (4) Judges will score this event.  Each Judge will have a specific responsibility as follows:

 

Judge           

Duties

1. Technical

Judge will ask the competitor what breaks he/she is performing. This judge will score the accuracy of the content of the breaks. Judge will also confirm that competitor’s stay within the boundaries and stays within the allotted time.

2. Difficulty

Judge will score the level of difficulty of the breaks.

3. Board

Judge will inspect the size and integrity of the boards.  He/she will score based on the number of tries the competitor used and how clean/accurately the boards broke. Judge will verify whether the Break was aided or manipulated by the holder to assist the Break.

4. Scorer

Judge will set the timer and ring the horn when time is up.  He/she will add the scores, display the scores, type in the competitor’s standing in the division.

 Each Judge will score based on a ten point system.

 

Sparring Competition

 

All competitors must have headgear, chest protector, mouthpiece, shin & in-step guards, forearm guards (no fist), and groin protective cup (male competitors).  Any competitor without any one of the required and mandatory equipment at the time of his/her match will be declared disqualified.

All junior divisions and adult color belts divisions will get two rounds lasting one minute each round with 30 seconds break in between each round.  All junior divisions will be governed by WTF Junior National rules:

1.   Age 5~11: Full contact to the body and no contact to the head and face area.

2.   Age 12~13 Color Belts: Full contact to the body and very light contact to the head, not directly to the face (The sides of the head are only allowed.)  

3.   Age 12~13 Black Belts: Full contact to the body and the head, not directly to the face (The sides of the head are only allowed.)

4.    Age 14~17 Color Belts: Full contact to the body and very light contact to the head and face area.  

5.   Age 14~17 Black Belts & all Adult Black Belts: Full contact to the body and the head and face area.

All adult color belts (18 yrs. and up, white - red) will be guided by modified WTF rules with full contact to the body and light contact to the head and face area.

Adult and Senior Black Belt Divisions will observe WTF Adult National Rules.

All adult and junior black belts (12~17 yrs. old) will get two rounds lasting one and a half minute each round with 30 seconds break in between each round.

All Age 14~17 and 18~34 Black Belt Male /Female Sparring Divisions will be double elimination.
